An Indiana Department of Transportation notice and local newsrooms reported a livestock trailer in a three-vehicle crash near Keystone Avenue on 6 August 2026. No people were reported injured.
A livestock trailer was involved in a crash on eastbound Interstate 465 in Indianapolis on the afternoon of 6 August 2026. An Indiana Department of Transportation notice sent around 3:30 p.m. local time, as reported by Fox 59, said eighteen sheep had left a pickup-hauled trailer after a collision that also involved two semi-trucks near Keystone Avenue.
WISH-TV, citing Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine, said the crash involved a semitractor-tanker, a semitractor-trailer, and a truck hauling eighteen sheep. Sgt. Perrine told WISH-TV that one of the eighteen sheep was injured in the trailer and that no people were hurt. The animals were contained at the scene to be collected by another trailer.
WIBC also quoted Sgt. Perrine as saying motorists used their vehicles to keep the animals in one area. WIBC reported that one sheep was injured, that no people were hurt, and that three lanes between Westfield Boulevard and Meridian Street were closed while crews cleared the scene. INDOT later said the lanes had reopened. WIBC described the number of animals as nearly 20.
The Indianapolis Star, citing the same sergeant, described the number of animals that left the trailer as more than a dozen and said those animals were later corralled and accounted for. The Star placed the crash near mile marker 33.
The Newes has not independently inspected the scene. The count of eighteen comes from the INDOT notice as reported by Fox 59 and is repeated by WISH-TV. The Star used a broader figure. The animal-injury detail is attributed to WIBC and to WISH-TV citing Sgt. Perrine. State police were investigating the cause of the crash when those reports were filed. The owner of the livestock and the flock's destination were not established in those accounts.
